I love owning items that I know someone has poured their heart and time into. I find them a lot more personal and appealing than mass produced items.

What got you started crafting?
I began crafting while on maternity leave. I needed a way to relax and unwind in the evenings. I also needed a creative outlet since I wasn't working anymore (I'm a graphic designer for a local TV station).
What is your source of inspiration?
My two daughters are my source of inspiration. Until they came along, the only colors you'd find in my home or wardrobe would be black, white and neutrals. I've since learned to love bright colors and try to incorporate them in my life as much as possible.
What have you made recently?
My daughters have started to outgrow some of their toy animals and instead of throwing out the ones that were in no condition to be given away, I decided to repurpose them by painting them. I sand them down as much as possible to get rid of any imperfections. I then prime the animals and hand paint them with several coats. And finally, I seal them with a water based sealer to give them a matte finish.
I began by spray painting the toys but found that hand painting them was more enjoyable. The process takes much longer but I think the extra time and care it takes to paint them properly by hand shows through.
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
I have a shop on Etsy that I opened up in mid March. I've also gone to a couple of craft fairs but I find those a bit stressful. I'm a shy person so selling online is more suited to me.
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
I love owning items that I know someone has poured their heart and time into. I find them a lot more personal and appealing than mass produced items.
