Jewelry design is literally in my DNA- my grandmother Thursa, who is part Cherokee Indian, spent a lot of her free time spinning webs of dream catchers and intricate beading while telling stories of our ancestors.
1.) I love to eat peanut butter straight out of the jar
2.) I rearrange at least one room in the house every week
3.) I am disgusted by mouth noises i.e. chewing, slurping, crunching
4.) I love being a mother of 4 boys (19, 16, 14,and 7) and wish they were all little again.
What got you started crafting?
Jewelry design is literally in my DNA- my grandmother Thursa, who is part Cherokee Indian, spent a lot of her free time spinning webs of dream catchers and intricate beading while telling stories of our ancestors. I incorporated her passion for our heritage with my passion for fashion and the unexpected and Soulful-Lee Yours was born.
What is your source of inspiration?
I find that many things inspire me! My emotions, surroundings, scenery, the textures I come across. I would say out of those, mostly it is my emotions I go on. Being the Gemini in me, I have a few sides to me that come out when I create- the romantic, the earthy, or the bold person I wish I could be in real life.
I also have Bohemian heritage and Native American...so my work shows alot of that.
What have you made recently?
I made a colorful cha-cha inspired bracelet. It was full of vibrant color, textures, and made the most beautiful sound when worn. It sold the same day I made it, so I didn't get to enjoy it for too long, but it was fun to make.
Every piece that is made needs to be able to make a statement on its own.
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
We sell on Etsy, on our Facebook Fan page, and two local stores in our town in Wisconsin. We also do several craft fairs each year.
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
Handmade jewelry is a way to express who you are, knowing that you are wearing jewelry not worn by other women in the street. Because you know every piece was made with the artisans heart and soul and many pieces have a story.
