All in all, I love what I do! I only wish I had more time to do it!
Kim Harris
I'm a stay at home Mom who loves creating things! Right now, I create modest skirts for preteen girls. It's so fun because of all the different, colorful, and beautiful fabric that's available! Modesty is something that I highly value. I think that Moms should have online shops to go to for modest clothing. This is how I contribute to my community and the communities of others.
I admire all the creative people out here that use their imagingations to come up with amazing things! It's very entertaining for me to find people like this. Which is why I love Etsy! If you haven't visited there, please do. You'll be amazed at some of the things people come up with!
I love going into fabric stores/craft stores. I love the touch of fabric and the sound of scissors! lol
What got you started crafting?
Necessity got me started! I have a hard time finding skirts and dresses that fit my taste for my Daughter. I love color, style, and modesty. Which is why it was hard to find anything for her in our local retail stores. Now, she has so many skirts made by me. She's constantly asking me to make more for her! If I could only find the time to do it as a full time job. Hopefully, one day I will look back and it'll be my full time job (making skirts)!
What is your source of inspiration?
When someone likes my work or my fb page, it inspires me more! I know that people are liking what I do and I'm helping our communities. I also get inspired from blogs like this one. Knowing that there's a place for all of us crafters! I also get inspired from visiting and supporting the shops of other crafters. I feel I can learn so much from them.
What have you made recently?
My latest creation is the Beautiful Orange Crush Skirt! I love everything about this skirt! The colors are amazing! My Daughter picked out the fabric. She has an eye for color and beauty! This skirt has a video that shows how it was created from start to finish. Each time I watch it, I get amazed atthe final look of the skirt. As if I have never watched it before!
I love before and after videos of just about anything! As I watch the before and after of each one of my skirts, I can't wait to create my next skirt and watch the video!
It's very important to me to take my time when making my skirts. I want to create well made skirts. If I don't like it, no one else will. If I cut corners and do thing cheaply or quickly, I think it would show in my final product. That's why I don't do it. I don't care if it takes me 6 hours to make a skirt. It must be right to me! Sometimes I do the flowers/bows over and over. Not to mention the number of times I have to rip out a seam because it just didn't look right.
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
I sell my skirts on Etsy! I do this whenever I can squeeze it in. I work a part time job in customer service (from home). Therefore, my time is very limited. I must work on my skirts during down time or when I get off from work (many late nights).
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
Handmade means someone has put more effort into their products. It means love to me. When I get something handmade, I feel more special. Sure, I can go into any store and purchase something. Just like a dozen other people with the same product. Why not choose something that you will not find in a store?
