My Turkish Style Jewelry

in Featured Crafters, Handmade, Jewelry on 08/02/12

I’m very grateful that I have realized how much creating things can change someones’ life and bring total happiness!

Nezihe N Taylor

Random Facts About You?

Freelance jewelry designer since I was in my teen years

At 18 I opened my little shop designing my clothing line and jewelry and accesorries in Istanbul, Turkey

I remember making my barbie doll outfits and jewelry from my moms sewing class scraps

At the moment I enjoy running my hobby business shop in Etsy

In my spare time I am collecting donations for children in need with my fellow friends in " Childrens Charity Riders"

What got you started crafting?

I was working as a general manager for 8 years for a restaurant - lots of stress and working more than 13-14 hours a day. I realized, I was dying in the inside losing my real self slowly. One day I just made up my mind and walked away from the life gave me nothing but sadness - instantly I was happy and smiling! The next thing I know, I started to create again after all those years. Right after, I opened my store, and was overwhelmed by how much people admired my jewelry; it me very proud of myself and now I live stress free. I will never regret what I did! I have finally claimed my freedom, and I love what I am doing in my life.

What is your source of inspiration?

My main inspration coming from the city I was born and raised "Istanbul", also my trips around the Mediterranean countries like Turkey, Spain, Italy , Greece and Greek Islands. All the Bazaars of the Istanbul and small villages of Turkey and women in the villages with their ethnic creations gave me a lot of insprations!

What have you made recently?

I recently made this silk fabric evil eye bead necklace, inspired by women in Turkish villages. I used an old silk fabric from a shirt and handsewn it to make a thick cord, I adorned it with a handblown glass evil eye bead on it that I got it in my last trip to southern Turkish coast .It reminds me the Turquoise Mediterranean waters and white villas of Turkey.

Where do you sell your crafts presently?

All over the internet on Etsy, Dawanda, Yardsellr, Syle.ly and Copious.com

Why are handmade crafts important to you?

We are living in the century that everything depending on technology and things are being made in factories with hundreds of it produced in minutes, old is being thrown away for the new ! I am always against this high tech life. I believe simple life gives us more pleasure and handmade items never die or get thrown away; they always live in our lives as we grow, and they become only better.
