Photo Jewelry from My Travels

in Featured Crafters, Graphic Arts, Handmade, Jewelry, Photography on 01/08/11

Why Handmade?

Why NOT? Some of my favorite things have been purchased from tiny little shops in Europe where everything is handmade and where the people wouldn’t think of doing it any other way. Handmade good have a story and I love that.

Random Facts About You?

My house didn't have running water until I was 6.
I've been to Icleand, Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, Mexico, Canada, Aruba, Germany and the Czech Republic.
On New Year's Eve, for the last 3 years, I have done a mile of lunges (or more).
I'm a firm believer that what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger.

What got you started crafting?

My mother was a very crafty person and was always working on a fun project. I used to work full time as a web developer/designer and making things was my way of relaxing and using the creativity that I wasn't able to use in other projects.

What is your source of inspiration?

I LOVE to travel and love to see how other cultures go about their daily lives. I also love the feeling of being in a different place, where everything is new and exciting and interesting. My camera also loves all of these things and we try to capture as many of these moments and places as possible. These photographs hang on the walls of my house and are a great way to relive those moments. Then one day, the simplest thought came to me, why should photographs be limited to hanging just on walls? Lexi Lou Jewels was born shortly there after.

What have you made recently?

The most recent piece I made was using a photo of a red bicycle in an alley way in Rome. While wandering around looking for Campo de Fiori, I happened to spot this bike and shot it real quick. It has turned out to be one of my best selling photos and a huge fan favorite.
This photo was transferred onto a 1" x 1.5" piece of aluminum using a heat source and a few other secret ingredients :) I then added a vintage red Swarovski crystal bead and hung it from a sterling silver chain. Since the process is done by hand, no two pieces are alike. Even if I made 10 pendants with the same photo, they would all be unique.

Where do you sell your crafts presently?

Let's hear it for Etsy! Right now my jewelry can be bought through Etsy, but I hope to have some jewelry on display in the Spokane area soon.
