My mother-in-law giving a sewing machine. It changed my life!
Carrie Wilmot
I started making teddy bears two and a half years ago. My mother-in-law gave me a sewing machine and I taught myself to use it. I learned to sew by making tote bags and purses. I got the idea to make a teddy bear from a free pattern I came across online. He turned out ok, and I continued to make many more bears, each one help me refine my technique and style. My bear making mentor is Ted Menten. I purchased one of his books and learned alot. His bears are simple and beautiful. I've been in many online shows. I've also donated bears for charity, and I've been featured in the online magazine BearsandBuds.com. You can also see my work in the bear gallery pages in Teddy Bear and Friends.
What got you started crafting?
My mother-in-law giving a sewing machine. It changed my life!
What is your source of inspiration?
I love the whole process of conceiving the idea for a new bear.
What have you made recently?
I'm making a mama bear now to go with my baby bear Madison. It take me a minimum of 3 days to make 1 bear. I have to draw out the pattern, cut, sew, stuff, hand stitch, scissor sculp etc. All my bears have a look that identifies them as my design. Girly/traditional
