I just want my friends, family and fans to know how grateful I am for their love and support with my illustration! Thank you all so much!
Janique Crenshaw

1) I love finding obscure and odd underground hip-hop music
2) I truly admire people who actively pursue their dreams against all odds, like Sara Blakely and J.K. Rowling who created fortunes out of an idea and a whole lot of courage!
3) This past Christmas, and hopefully every Christmas to come, I handmade holiday cards for sick kids at a local hospital and had friends and family to help.
4) Purple is my absolute favorite color!
What got you started crafting?
My mom and grandmother have always been crafty ladies around their homes, which inspired my love for art and prompted me to go to art school at Savannah College of Art and Design and pursue Illustration. I was able to learn a lot, perfect my craft and share it with the world.
What is your source of inspiration?
Music, Pinterest, Illustration and Design annuals and magazines, Bollywood movies, my fellow crafters and illustrators, Fashion and nature.
What have you made recently?
The Valentine's greeting card set that I created was inspired by the corny lines on greeting cards at your local pharmacy. I really wanted to do my take on them and thought it would be just in time for Valentine's Day. So, I drew up a few rough sketches and some tag lines to go along with them, picked the ones I liked, and started digital coloring and layout in my Macbook!
My personal touch can be seen in the linework of my illustrations, which I simply drew, scanned in and colored, as well as my silly sense of humor. I also made, cut and folded each envelope, along with the cards, in the set. The tactile nature of handmade crafting almost demands that my personal touch be included in each thing I create.
What stands out most for me in this Valentine's set is the joy, fun and whimsy the illustrations exude!
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
I currently sell my handmade and illustrated creations on my etsy - crenshawillustration.etsy.com - and will be making rounds at my local arts and crafts market in March! So be on the lookout!
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
Handmade to me is one-of-a-kind and unique. Personally, I buy with the intention of finding that special something no one else has and I like to create handmade items for those people looking for something extraordinary. I love what I do because I get to experiment with materials and explore the depths of my creativity, while creating from my heart and sharing it with others. It's definitely a more personal connection that I get with my customers.
