Contemporary Jewelry Design ❤ Vintage Inspired

in Featured Crafters, Handmade, Jewelry on 26/10/11

I try to take care of the environment as much as possible, I use a lot of recycled and natural materials and processes, and my bicycle takes me anywhere I need to go.

Suzanne Marije

Random Facts About You?

I'm a Dutch girl (26) and proud owner of XOXII | Shop. My jewelry shop has a great selection of handmade Contemporary Jewelry Design ? Vintage Inspired. I love vintage finds and look all over the world to find just those perfect pieces to use in my jewelry. Besides jewelry making I also enjoy, photography, cooking, graphic design, traveling, a really good cup of coffee or two ;), going for a walk, and of course my boyfriend and cats!

What got you started crafting?

I started making jewelry about 2,5 years ago. I needed a new creative outlet. I was creating a lot of digital graphic design work. Which is great, but does n´t quite give the same satisfaction as having something tangible which is made with your own hands. I started selling my handmade jewelry to friends and family and decided in September 2010 to open up my own shop.

What is your source of inspiration?

Creating is a passion of mine; I don’t think I could live without expressing it in some way. I've always been quite the imaginatarian, and a dreamer. I am a formally and informally trained graphic designer and I have my very own eye for design and a way of creating and assembling a look and feel to things, from graphic to jewelry design. The inspiration comes from daily life, it can be as small as a word to as big as a building. At this time mostly nature, history and vintage pieces inspire me the most.

What have you made recently?

I've just started to do some wood burning pieces to add to my collection, it's a fun thing to do you need a lot of patience for it and it gives me a great sort of calm feeling I can really just dream off while working with wood pieces. I'm currently making some brooches with Autumn/Winter themes like Squirrel and Reindeer's, birds etc.

Where do you sell your crafts presently?

Besides friends, family and people in the Netherlands that I meet I sell on Etsy and Dawanda. I've also worked with a gallery in town.

Why are handmade crafts important to you?

Handmade is unique, personal, directly from the maker and designer and so much more special! I just love to get to know artists and the amazing things they make. You can find the perfect handmade gift for anyone!
