I choose handmade over all other products in the marketplace because handmade products have a special ingredient in them that you will never find in mass produced items. That ingredient is love.

1. I am a Psychology major working on my Bachelors degree.
2. I am completely in love with the outdoors and all of the beautiful creations God put on this planet.
3. I use my experiences of abuse to help others learn to be a survivor.
4. In order to begin healing we must first learn to accept the past as what it is the past. We can only be harmed by it if we allow it to stay in our present. Today is a new day! Let the past remain in the past and find encouragement in tomorrow.
What got you started crafting?
I have always loved doing crafts but until a couple of years ago I didn't have the confidence in myself to put my skills to work. After buying my daughter her own jewelry making kit and helping her with her jewelry I decided to make some of my own. My sister and I decided to go into business together selling our jewelry designs. She quickly got bored with making jewelry but I found that creating gave me an outlet for my anxiety. From there it has all been a learning process. I have gained a tremendous amount of confidence in not only my designs but myself as well. Now my jewelry is taking on a unique style all my own and I am in the process of starting my own line of elegant candles as well.
What is your source of inspiration?
I find inspiration everywhere I look. Sometimes it's the colors in the sky or the ever changing seasons. Other times it may be a picture I saw online. My mood varies and leads me to find inspiration in unexpected places.
What have you made recently?
I recently designed a crystal and pearl woven necklace. I was inspired to design this necklace by a necklace I saw on a magazine cover. The necklace reminded me of the icicles that form during winter. I wanted to recreate that look in a way that brings out my sense of style. I chose to use clear crystal bicones and white pearls to create this necklace. I used clear monofiliment wire to string the beads to prevent wire from showing through the clear crystals. I also find it easier to weave the beads together with the sturdy wire than using needle and thread. Once I created a design that I liked I added a silver clasp to finish off the look. I add my personal touch to everything I make by combining different materials and colors that other people might not think about. I also enjoy adding a touch of elegance to all of my designs. I think what stands out most about this piece is that it has a weaving pattern in it that makes it truly unique.
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
I sell my crafts online on Etsy and Facebook. I also go to several craft shows each year. During the harvest season I also have my jewelry for sell at our local farmer's market.
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
I choose handmade over all other products in the marketplace because handmade products have a special ingredient in them that you will never find in mass produced items. That ingredient is love. It takes a lot of love for crafting to spend hours and sometimes days to create that perfect piece. Mass produced items just don't have that type of quality. To me it isn't so much about being unique or having a one of a kind item. It's about the craftsmanship that goes into the product that makes it desirable. After making my own jewelry for the past two years and selling our home grown produce at the farmer's markets, I will never look at handmade the same way again. I know the amount of time and effort that goes into each individual piece. I will be supporting handmade artisans from here on out.
