What got you started crafting?
I've been crafting since I was a small child. I was always interested in making things with my hands. It's the only thing I remember having the attention-span to complete.
The idea of making something that someone else likes, wants, and is even willing to pay for, is such a rewarding feeling.
What is your source of inspiration?
I have two part-time jobs in addition to the full-time hours I put into my crafts. My main source of inspiration to keep going is the dream of quitting my jobs.
It's always been my dream to be self-employed. That's what keeps me going when I think about spending my days off sitting in front of the TV.
What have you made recently?
I recently began working on shoes. This has been a real challenge for me, because it's quite different than anything I've ever done before. I can barely sew a straight line, so anything involving stitches scares me to death.
I decided to create some shoes with the image of Lillian (my boston terrier) on them. I tracked down some strong adhesive, felt, and a needle and thread and I started working on a template. I was lucky to get the image and size looking right on the first try.
The sewing was a different story. I had very sore fingers when I was done. But many hours later, I finished my first pair. I was a happy girl. I think they turned out pretty well.
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
I've been selling on Etsy for a little more than a year. I have had a moderate amount of success there. It's a great place to test the waters and see what works. My Etsy shops have evolved quite a bit in the short time I've been selling there. They are still very much a work in progress, though.
