What got you started crafting?
I have always been extremely creative and have tried my hand at all sorts of arts and crafts. I have not mastered many disciplines, but i am always keen to have a go and improve each small step at a time. About 5-6 years ago i was making lots of greeting cards for family and friends, it turned out that i had quite a knack for it. People kept telling me that i should start selling them online, so bit by bit i began putting more energy and time into setting up a greeting card business. Two years ago, i pursauded my husband to design me a website, ever since we have both been working really hard in our spare time to get it up and running. In Feb 2011 it was finally ready and Looney Lizard Creations was launched!
What is your source of inspiration?
I love to cook, read, craft and take long country walks with my husband and our little dog. I find most of my inspiration comes from everything around me, things i see, smell and quite literally stumble upon. I find looking at other crafters works of art help stimulate my ideas, whatever it is they created there will be something that will trigger an idea.
What have you made recently?
I have been recently been designing and crafting my Christmas card range. I guess my inspiration has been running through my xmas dvds on my computer whilst sketing the feelings i feel (in a visual or iconic form) throughout the holidays. The colours, the smells, the food and trying to capture the essence of what Christmas is about.
One of my most recent creations, has been a luxury christmas card, that features a series of varying size snowflakes, that have been embellished and decorated with lots of glitzy Swarovski crystals and sparkly paper. The whole design is very white and light, with a touch of icy blue and a hint of grey to convey that chilly frosty beauty of Christmas morning when you open the curtains and everything is bright white outside. Now ok, it does not happen often for us these days, but when it does snow over christmas it is literally quite magical and brings back those excited childhood memories. I wanted to try and capture this feeling in this card, so i named it White Christmas.
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
Well initially i sold them to friends and family as requested, but now since Feb 2011 i sell all of my cards via my Looney Lizard website! I have started to attend craft/country fayre's and will focus more time on participating in larger events. So we are investing a huge amount of time now on spreading the word and to date it has kicked off far better than i had expected.
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
Well for me handmade crafts are far superior to anything mass produced on the production line. They are unique, special and a lot of love always goes into them. They have feeling, warmth and a lot of character! Today people all want to project their individuality above the cookie cutter industrial mould, well with handmade unique items they instantly define ones taste and individuality! They are unique! :)
