I read the encyclopedia for fun; and my favorite movie is Breakfast at Tiffany’s

I'm a singer/songwriter and also dilly-dally at the keys; If I could go anywhere in the world, I'd go to Greece; I read the encyclopedia for fun; and my favorite movie is Breakfast at Tiffany's
What got you started crafting?
My mother made my clothes when I was younger, and when I was five, she began to teach me the basics of sewing. By ten I was sewing my own clothes as well as matching outfits for my Barbie dolls.
What is your source of inspiration?
I get inspired by the fabrics when I go shopping. I'm such a "touchy-feely" person when it comes to fabrics: I admire the drape, the color, the print, or the opacity, and eventually an idea pops into my head, and the fabric pops into my cart.
What have you made recently?
My Fall 2011 collection of bags was a more cohesive collection that previous seasons. I wanted to keep it traditional in color (chocolate brown, poppy orange, navy, cream, etc.) but have certain elements that make it unique. My goal in creating all my pieces is to make something unique, but still functional with a familiar feature so people can relate to it and don't feel awkward wearing/using it. This collection does just that, incorporating familiar colors with something new but functional, perhaps and asymmetrical zipper pocket on the front? Or maybe some exposed seams on a classic hobo purse.
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
I have an Etsy shop as well as a webstore on my personal website. I also sell my bags in stores and boutiques in the US, and during the holidays, I do a few local craft shows/holiday bazaars.
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
Handmade products have a personality to them. Instead of buying something that was made for millions of people to enjoy, someone thought of one type of person to create a special and unique item. There's an intimacy that comes with buying a handmade item because you know that there isn't an exact factory-made replica on someone else's shoulder; a handmade product is an individual, just like you!
