Hand-Made Cuteness

in Cards, Featured Crafters on 25/07/10

I am what you would call a “clean creative”…my first scrapbook had whole pages that where actually color coordinated and made out of sticky notes. I am in love with office supplies and I have all the highlighters in the world in order to make color coordinated labels, tags, cards, etc… My favorite drawing utensil of choice, a sharpie, Why? Because they make clean lines and that makes me happy! Simply put, a clean creative is what happens when you mix creativity with organization skills. That would be ME. I grew up with two very “clean creative” parents who have always inspired me to write, draw, paint…. dream. Scuttle is the byproduct of their influence, My husbands constant support & mad web design skills and of course my aunt who gave her the nickname Scuttle many years ago.

Random Facts About You?

* I have 3 loves in my life, my Husband & my two puppies, Ducky the chihuahua-terrier mix & Ms. Tumness (yes, like the character from the Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe book/movie) who is a chihuahua-dachshund mix - she is a chi-weenie!!

* I am married to an Australian stud! We just traveled back to visit his homeland last month... it is absolutely gorgeous! Best food, people, beaches & SHOPPING!

*For Christmas I got a painted portrait of Ms. Tumness in a tuxedo

*One of my nicknames is actually Scuttle! Why? no particular reason, my aunt just decided one day that I look like a scuttle. What exactly is a scuttle? It is a naval term for a hatch... random, I know. When people ask what scuttle stands for I usually just tell them that it's the bird from the Little Mermaid, that is a much more exciting answer :)

What got you started crafting?

I am what you would call a "clean creative". What does that mean? Well my first scrapbook had whole pages that where actually color coordinated and made out of sticky notes. I am in love with office supplies and I have all the highlighters in the world in order to make color coordinated labels, tags, cards, ect... My favorite drawing utensil of choice, a sharpie, Why? Because they make clean lines and that makes me happy!

Simply put, a clean creative is what happens when you mix creativity with organization skills. That would be ME. I grew up with two very "clean creative" parents who have always inspired me to write, draw, paint.... dream. Scuttle is the byproduct of their influence, My husbands constant support & mad web design skills and of course my aunt who gave her the nickname Scuttle many years ago.

What is your source of inspiration?

Everything! Ideas are constantly popping into my head in all circumstances. My zoo cards stemmed out of my trip to the Sydney Zoo after watching the seal show. So random, everyday experiences inspire me. Fashion & Room Decor are very big inspirations for me. I love the use of color in everyday life and I use it often in my own home, make-up & clothing choices, so I try to translate that color & life into my work. I am naturally a bright person & you match that with organization & you get my products.

What have you made recently?

I recently made my "Frame Me" cards which is a set of 4 cute cards based on a sparkly & shiny (I love glitz!!) paper with 3D frames hanging and a cute bow at the bottom. This is one of my favorites because it is just my style! I also just got "Oswald the Giraffe" cards made as well. These are cards that I hand drew. It has a giraffe giving another giraffe a flower. It is a cute depiction of friendship and I just love giraffes, they are just so gangly & awkward, which makes them cuties!

Where do you sell your crafts presently?

I sell my products on my website www.Myscuttle.com

Why are handmade crafts important to you?

I love handmade products because it just makes things feel so much more personal and special. In a world where everything is mass produced, it is nice to receive something that is one of a kind and special. When you receive something that has been hand-made, it really makes you feel warm & fuzzy inside because you feel like some one really spent time on you. I want to bring the art of handmade cards & stationary not only to the local art scene but to the main stream audience who really appreciate art but either don't have the talent or the time to make cards for those they care about the most. MyScuttle.com wants to help bring the personal touch to those who don't have time.
