Exciting to Make and Wear

in Clothing, Crocheting, Featured Crafters, Handmade on 23/10/11

They are usually made by people who care about craftsmanship. Craftsmanship is a word that means very little to most these days. Houses go up in weeks as well as buildings and there usually isn’t anything to give it “character”. Handmade items are different. The crafter takes the time to make it as beautifully as possible because they have to put their stamp on it personally.

Random Facts About You?

- I was a conversational English teacher in Pusan, Korea for 10 months when I was 21, it was the best thing I ever did for my future self.

- At 42 I had my second and last child who was the completion of our family

- My favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption, need I say more??

- I love Warren Buffet ...

What got you started crafting?

I met my boyfriend's (now husband) grandmother in 2002 and she showed me all the crafts she did. Knitting, crochet, beading, quilting, painting etc. I left her thinking I could at least learn to do one of the things she did so I went to a bookstore, picked up a book on crochet, then I went to a craft store and got some yarn and a hook. . . I've been hooked ever since!

What is your source of inspiration?

The ever evolving world of fashion. . . old and new!

What have you made recently?

In my head are many designs. . . I haven't been able to complete them all yet. However, I recently completed a beautiful crochet cable scarf designed specifically for men. I wanted to make more items for me, and as I searched I found that most items for men were basic stitch and a bit boring, so I decided to take it to another level! The scarf is wide, long and weighty which is perfect for a man because he can feel well wrapped. . . as with all men's items it can also be worn by a woman and I plan to make it in various colors in order to maximize it's appeal!

Where do you sell your crafts presently?

I'm currently focused on selling my items in my Etsy shop. I don't have time for shows, so I'm working to develop patterns for publishing as well as new cards for distribution to help get the word out. I also use give-aways and promotions on my blog!
