I won't eat at a restaurant if their sign possesses an ugly font or poorly designed logo.
I love to change the words to popular songs so the topic becomes relevant to current events. I'm one accordion short of a modern day Weird Al.
Felt, wire, paper, collage, watercolor, screen printing, embroidery, sewing... you name it, I've done it. If I haven't, I want to try it.
As a five-year-old my idol was Pee-Wee Herman. 25 years later... my idol? Paul Reubens.
What got you started crafting?
I honestly can't remember a time in my life where I didn't craft. I knew at age 15 I wanted to be a graphic designer. When I got into "the real world" and was a graphic designer for a living, I found myself unable to use my design skills on only the computer. I'm a sucker for a good mock-up project or a mixed media piece that involves everything I love: typography, design, paper, hot glue, paint, and x-acto knives.
What is your source of inspiration?
I get such a creative charge from being around other artists! I am part of a monthly craft meetup called Craft Bar Chicago. I leave there feeling so energized and ready to create!
What have you made recently?
I recently finished a handmade wreath as a gift. I wrapped a styrofoam wreath in colored burlap, then hot glued handmade fabric flowers and a wooden letter to it. This gift was something special --- the recipient could never go to a store and find something similar.
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
I'm honored, lucky, and beyond ecstatic to have a successful Etsy shop {GrassGreenDesign.etsy.com}. When I started it in 2011, I had no idea how great of an experience being an Etsy seller would be.
I have a monthly booth every summer at the Chesterton European Market in the beautiful Duneland Community of NW Indiana.
Some of my more popular prints and greeting cards are available at boutique shops in Chicago and Valparaiso, Indiana.
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
Why handmade? Because I don't like having the same things as everyone else! It's as simple as that.
