Contrasting textures, balance, depth; following lines

in Featured Crafters, Handmade, Jewelry on 25/09/10

Handmade is special. Even if many of the same item are being made, they will each be unique, and different. Things don’t have to be perfect. In fact, it’s the imperfections in most handmade items that make them so beautiful, and sought after. Why have something, that 10,000 other people have exactly the same of?!

Random Facts About You?

* I love tea with shortbread biscuits.
* I'll give you enough rope to hang yourself (it's the scorpio that can come out in me).
* I love rainy days.
* I love photographs, having them.. taking them..

What got you started crafting?

Making jewelry is what I studied.

I was not sure what I wanted to study after high school, and a friend of mine suggested I go to a local college with her to study jewelry manufacturing & design. I thought it was a great idea, as I am a very creative person, and have always looked for a creative outlet that works for me. I think I have found my outlet in silversmithing.

I love to design, and then turn a sketch into something wearable, and beautiful.

What is your source of inspiration?

I take inspiration from shapes, and the different angles they can create when put together or on top of each other. I like organic lines that are soft and flow easily. I also take inspiration from fashion. I like to look at pictures of different trendy outfits, whether they are being worn by kate moss or angelina jolie, and sketch something that I feel would go with her outfit; and what she is trying to express through what she is wearing.

What have you made recently?

I recently made a pair of silver studs. I made them each out of a solid piece of silver, and filed in the line's and 3 different steps at different thicknesses.

I was inspired by a casual, femminine outfit I had seen in an ELLE magazine.
Pretty, femminine & stylish is what I was aiming for.

Where do you sell your crafts presently?

I sell my jewelry pieces from home, through word of mouth, and online through Etsy.
