Sikiu Perez
Making art full time is my dream come true.
Winter is not too bad if you can park inside.
Lollipops are good.
Mud on my hands is the beginning of everything.
What got you started crafting?
I was born an artist. My parents encouraged me to pursue an art career parallel to a Marketing degree. My father is a ceramic teacher and has a home studio; I remember using his workspace as playground and further on as inspiration.
What is your source of inspiration?
The Ancient pre-columbian art is so inspiring to me, however, their topics tend to be so serious and I'm a happy girl, so I create my own joyful pieces with evident marks of my inspirations.
What have you made recently?
Oh dear, my art process is more like multitasking. I make few different pieces at once, for example I just started making terracotta dove for a wedding and meanwhile they dry to leather hard I'm painting few medallions with acrylic then I go and check my sketches to layout a pastel drawing. Did I mention marketing?
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
I sell online and thru galleries. I also welcome studio visits. I love when people come to see my work in person, it is important to me to share my art.
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
They are personal, you can touch people's energy in each and every piece.
