There is a deeper consciousness and a certain pride that goes with handmade produced items. My materials are recycled and carefully chosen for a particular project and I put so much care, love and work into my products that you don’t get with commercially produced things. For this reason, I also love to buy from other artists because of all the work, character and heart that goes into creating a handmade piece. Cheers to handmade everything!
Tracy Viverretta
- I love Portland but am not from here.
- I love grody polyester though it's not natural and has yukky stuff in it.
- I am intrigued with illustrating and painting faces.
- I sometimes dream of having a place to take in stray dogs and adopt them out to loving homes.
What got you started crafting?
It started when I was so young so I don't remember. I only know that I can't imagine not making stuff on a daily basis. I make things to write on, things to frame, things to read, things to sleep on, things to play with, things that are sweet, things that are odd, things to hang, things to love, things to cherish. I make boatloads of stuff and I love it!
What is your source of inspiration?
Hmmm....Everything. Faces of all kinds, words, my box of crayons, textiles, art stores, magazines, shoes, happiness, friendly people, tree branches, jazz and every other genre of music, leaves in the fall, New York City, snow, the neighborhoods, people and offerings in Portland, houses - especially small cottages, dogs, smiles, animation...
What have you made recently?
I recently made some Valentine's Gift Packs that included a varied assortment of my paper goods. I'm also in the process of making some produce bags, handbags, wallets and a brand new product that I can't wait to finish so I can see how they turn out - dog beds!!
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
I sell my work at bookstores, shops and fairs in Portland and in my new online shop that I just opened.
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
There is a deeper consciousness and a certain pride that goes with handmade produced items. My materials are recycled and carefully chosen for a particular project and I put so much care, love and work into my products that you don't get with commercially produced things. For this reason, I also love to buy from other artists because of all the work, character and heart that goes into creating a handmade piece. Cheers to handmade everything!
