I love the unique, imperfect nature of handmade goods and the knowledge that somebody has lovingly dedicated their time, talent and energy into producing it just for me. The choices are endless, with much more variety than the generic options you get in the high street stores.
Joanne Procter
I am an English woman living in the USA.
I play competitive tennis and am totally obsessed with the sport.
I have been studying pottery for the last 6 months.
I am terrified of dogs!
What got you started crafting?
I graduated from the University of the West of England with a BA hons in Graphic Design and embarked on a career as an Art Editor at a publishing company for several years before a shift to family life and a move to the USA. I have always loved sketching and mooching around Arts and Craft shows and have recently had more time to explore my creativity. I have been studying pottery for the last 6 months, and hand making jewelry in my office at home. For me it is a way to relax at the end of the day when the kids are in bed. I love the process and holding the finished product and I hope that someone else will too!
What is your source of inspiration?
I love browsing other peoples shops on Etsy, across all genres of crafting and handmade goods. Keeping a sketch book helps too. A moment captured down at the beach, can give me the inspiration and color palette for a new bracelet. I often visit the great museums and galleries accessible in NYC which never fail to plant a seed of an idea. And of course people watching is always a great source of inspiration. Nothing better than sitting with a latte at the local coffee shop and observing trends.
What have you made recently?
Necklace Romantic Ribbon and Lampwork Olive Beads
Opulent olive green, lampwork glass beads have been wire wrapped with copper and linked with copper hoops and sterling silver spacer beads. The necklace has been completed with a sage green, silk ribbon, tied in a feminine bow at one side, for a romantic and nostalgic feel.
I have hammered the copper hoops for texture, and then oxidized and polished for an antique effect.
The necklace really is one of a kind, totally unique.
*Necklace has a 14" drop, but ribbon can be adjusted to suit*
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
I have an online shop on Etsy.com, and am hoping to get my hair pins stocked in local bridal stores.
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
I love the unique, imperfect nature of handmade goods and the knowledge that somebody has lovingly dedicated their time, talent and energy into producing it just for me. The choices are endless, with much more variety than the generic options you get in the high street stores.
