…I love to knit…I adore coffee…I almost named my dog after two of my favorite things….Mochi, or Lisbeth Salender. (turns out her name is Constance.)…I live in a modest area, close to all of my friends. I find that walking to your friends places is a luxury…I dontt know how to drive…
Paule Trudel-Bellemare
I am short (5') and i live in a tiny appartment with my pug.
I love Montreal; ended up choosing this city over New York.
What got you started crafting?
I have been an illustrator for five years, and wanted to diversify my income. I wanted to do something with the illustrations i did for my portfolio.
When you work digitally, nothing touchable comes out of it unless you make prints!
And i love paper, so that was an easy start.
What is your source of inspiration?
Everything that my eyes lay on somehow ends up inspiring me.
People i see, blogs, interior decoration, food.
I love blogs that are not about illustration, but very pretty visually.
I love yarns, they give me great colour ideas.
What have you made recently?
Ive worked on a calendar for 2011 this year.
It was a great project. I wanted to draw cute edgy girls and women in random everyday settings..but keep it very fashionable with eye candy at the same time.
I started with the concept of birth stones, decided to give each month's girl the hair colour of their stone. (ie: July has Ruby hair...) then i also incorporated flowers of each month...in tattoos, literally, on fabrics...etc.
I had a lot of fun and it turned out quite pretty i think!
I also shopped for a hand made paper. Found one made here in Montreal, with recycled cotton rags, it is absolutely gorgeous.
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
I participate in local craft fairs like Puces Pop and Smart Design Mart.
I have had an art show at Head Quaters Galerie in Montreal.
But mostly on Etsy and through word of mouth with friends and family.
I do portraits too, and usually that happens by word of mouth.
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
Because it is so much more personal. People want to feel the human being that took some of his/her time to make them something great. I think most people cherish that new way of buying! (which has nothing new!!)
