Ginene Licata
I have been on two TV shows (Trading Spaces boys vs Girls & Against the Grain) both as a carpenter
I will never ever own a black winter coat, even though I live in New York City.
I am always trying to be strong and smart, so that my two girls will always never give up on a dream and love themselves for who they are
I can not keep a bag of potato chips in my house, if the bag is opened then the next place the bag will see is the trash can after I have eaten every crumb. If I must have a chip then I need to get up, put my shoes on, walk to the store and buy a bag each time I have the urge.
What got you started crafting?
I have been crafting all my life. In high school I made a vest out of dryer lint for an art project, I know a little weird, but I was 15 and had purple hair at the time what do you expect. I love to work with my hands, it could be making cups cakes that look like different breeds of dogs for my daughter Birthday or welding a metal piece that end up turning out to be a coat rack. I will use any medium available to me to create and my goal is to pass that on to my kids. The one thing I need to learn to how to blow glass....that's on my bucket list still.
What is your source of inspiration?
Color, Comfort, Durability & High Style!
I want to be able to see my girl from across the playground, so my clothes must pop out of the crowd. I love print and I am believer that kids can wear anything and make it look good. So I make dresses that will make them look great and be comfortable all day long. I like to mix color and prints that are child like and more mature I feel it gives the dresses more attitude while still be age appropriate .
What have you made recently?
Recently I have made a few handmade and painted bib's along with some holiday dresses. When I make something I try to think what can I do that will make this garment look special. Usually it comes to me after I stare at it for a while then it hits me like ton of bricks. Example: my Thanksgiving bib, I wanted it to look homemade. Then I realized I wanted it to look like a kid got a hold of it, and that's where the hand turkey, hand painted applique came from.
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
Selling.....I have a website (www.Play-Pretty.com) and an Etsy store (PlayPrettyWears), but it all started on the playground. After the birth of my daughter I could not find clothes that I liked for her that had more dazzle then leggings and a tee shirt. So I pulled out my sewing machines and got busy. Then other moms wanted to know where all my daughters clothes were from. My husband pushed me and said you can do this, so I started selling my dresses.
