Vintage Inspired Textile Jewelry

in Featured Crafters, Handmade, Jewelry on 24/03/12

I get my inspiration mainly out of nature. I love earthy tones and the world around can provide you with countless patterns. I also get a lot of inspiration when gathering my materials all together, touching them and making possible combinations.

Random Facts About You?

Check my e-mails: First thing in the morning!
I love Agatha Christie.
When I am crafting I forget to go to bed!
I have recently changed country, job, life! - A big decision and I am still in the beginning!

What got you started crafting?

As long as I can remember myself I've been making things with my hands. My mother makes really beautiful things - mainly sewing and embroidery. I want to think that I got my craftiness from her.
I have always liked the feeling of freedom and independence that crafting gives me. I am continuously looking for new techniques and experimenting with new materials.

What is your source of inspiration?

I get my inspiration mainly out of nature. I love earthy tones and the world around can provide you with countless patterns. I also get a lot of inspiration when gathering my materials all together, touching them and making possible combinations.

What have you made recently?

I started my first collection in Arts in Pants, inspired by vintage postcards and letters and nature patterns. I wanted my objects to remind people of old times when jewellery and accessories weren't mass produced and letters had a stamp on them instead of a sticker.
The objects in this collection are one of a kind, entirely hand embroidered with high quality silk fabrics, threads, beads and pearls. I have also used mixed media techniques, such as a combination of resin on paper and embroidery.

Where do you sell your crafts presently?

I mainly present my crafts on Etsy, but I also get orders on my Facebook Page.
I am thinking of making a website soon.

Why are handmade crafts important to you?

The last years I have reduced dramatically the things I am buying. When I buy something I want to gain a great deal of satisfaction from it - and handmade objects can make you feel like this.
Handmade objects have a story. They have been touched, manipulated, formed by another human hand. They are unique and have the ability to connect people.

As a maker, I love using low technology in a rapidly moving world; taking my time and making a piece of work- a piece of thought.
