Useable, Reusable, Uniquely Handmade

in Featured Crafters, Handmade, Sewing on 18/02/13

Nizel shows us great hand sewn items that you will want to use everyday! My favorite are her custom wine charms – she puts a handmade spin on them and gives us a colorful and fun option for your wine glasses at your next party.

Random Facts About You?

- I love Spicy V8
- I am Alaskan Native
- I hate matching socks
- I feel like anything can be unique to you just by your attitude towards it.

What got you started crafting?

I have always loved crafting. It's a very personal calming activity for me. I remember being a teenager and sitting in my room with 'She wants revenge' on my headphones and just cutting and manipulating things. I love going in to a project having no idea how it will come out and just waiting for it to be finished to see what I have created. I love creating one of a kind really unique stuff. I also feel like its important to make the usable items as well and putting my own spin on the fabric or embellishments.

What is your source of inspiration?

My home and everyday life. I make stuff for myself and then I make a bunch more to share. I love giving stuff away that’s why you will notice most of my stuff is for gifts. I want to make it as accessible as possible for everyone to give someone they love a handmade gift.. even if they don’t make it.

What have you made recently?

I just recently started making the Silk Burnt Edge Wine charms. I love getting and using wine charms. Not only are they totally functional when everyone has the same beverage in the same type of glass but they automatically make you feel fancy and elegant. I made them out of Satin because for me it is really easy to work with and just feels and looks so sweet. I added the buttons to the middle for a little cuteness I didn’t want you to not want to use them daily.

Where do you sell your crafts presently?

I sell to every and anyone! I do a lot of craft shows and boutique appearances. I do have an etsy shop that I just recently opened. I also still love giving stuff away so I do give-aways on my facebook page as often as possible.

Why are handmade crafts important to you?

I love handmade because you can get exactly what you want. You don’t have to settle for someone elses version of beautiful. You can control the fabric, the colors, the embellishments and truly make it your own. Also you know that by buying Handmade you are supporting someone just like you. Someone at home with a passion and a will to succeed doing what they love.
