Random Facts About You?I'm a professional Graphic Designer.
I've been beading since before I was 5.
I'm certain that Red is the most amazing color in the world.
I don't like milk, so I put water in my cereal (ewww, I know!)
What got you started crafting?
My grandfather was really into Native beadwork when I was young, so I picked it up form him wayyyyy back when. I started off making earrings and branched off into more and more complicated beadwork, finding my own style all the way. I really enjoy using the Native craft form of using beads and applying a contemporary, fashionable twist.
What is your source of inspiration?
Usually the medium itself will inspire me. I'll just start making some, a necklace, bracelet, or whatever, and the jewelry piece will transform itself. Other times I will find inspiration in everyday things, or fantastical images that I sketch and turn into patterns before creating in beads.
What have you made recently?
I've recently been working on a large custom order for several beaded amulet with matching earrings and bracelets in Native-inspired animal themes. This has forced me to shed some of the "contemporary twists" that I usually apply to my bead-work and get back in touch with its origins. I've been enjoying creating the patterns of the animal themes (buffalo, eagle, owl, bear) and creating jewelry with imagery on it. It's a very time-consuming process, but I feel a great overall sense of achievement as I am completing each piece, which is an excellent feeling.
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
I sell in several online venues. I try to fit in at least one local craft fair a year. I also sell beading patterns online.
