What got you started crafting?
I have always been a crafty girl...ever since I was a young kid. I remember making my own pajamas and clothes in high school - I always wanted to be different.
I began creating jewelry when I was preparing for my wedding (in 2006) and I wanted to make gifts for everyone, and have everything in the wedding be DIY. I started by making some jeweled bracelets, which I gave to my bridesmaids. Once I began creating jewelry, I became hooked. So I made my wedding jewelry, and kept on going! Now, four years later, I am still creating jewelry, but I've also moved into accessories, and bridal adornments. I absolutely love weddings, and I think it's only natural that I create fashions for brides - since my own wedding is what got me started on this trail.
What is your source of inspiration?
I have always been inspired by classic, vintage beauty. I love classic women, and I think they are great at showcasing their natural beauty. Those are the women that inspire me.
What have you made recently?
Recently, I began designing bridal adornments: veils, birdcage veils, feather fascinators, hair clips, hair pins, and jewelry. In March 2011 I will be having a grand opening during the Comox Valley Love Affair in Courtenay, B.C. Each piece is handmade, and most items are completely one of a kind. More information and pictures will be available soon, via the Bijoux Rouge website.
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
You can purchase my designs through my Etsy store.
You can also buy in person when I attend craft shows, fairs and markets. The events page on my website will keep you updated about any upcoming showings.
Uranus Gifts & Greetings, Courtenay, B.C. - is a current retailer of Bijoux Rouge products and stocks a variety of designs (earrings, necklaces, pendants, etc).
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
I prefer handmade. If I see something I want, and I think I can make it, I'll make it (or at least try!). I can't stand to pay for something that I can make myself. That being said, there are a lot of things I don't know how to make!
