Unique, Handmade, Natural Materials

in Featured Crafters, Handmade, Knitting on 17/05/11

Different things inspire me. Sometimes it’s a color, sometimes a texture, sometimes a mood. I often catch myself watching other people’s knitwear and figuring out how it was made. Also I have quite many stitch libraries and traditional Estonian knitting patterns. leafing those through always gives me some impulses.

Random Facts About You?

I have education in IT and in classical music. I love to do long walks at weekends by the sea. I have two cutest kitties. I've got a little roof garden.

What got you started crafting?

My mother and grandmother both knit and sometimes crochet. Also in school we had craft lessons. I actively started to knit and crochet when I was a student because I wanted to look unique. Also most of the things sold in shops that I could afford were made of acrylic yarn. My absolute preference is everything natural.

What is your source of inspiration?

Different things inspire me. Sometimes it's a color, sometimes a texture, sometimes a mood. I often catch myself watching other people's knitwear and figuring out how it was made. Also I have quite many stitch libraries and traditional Estonian knitting patterns. leafing those through always gives me some impulses.

What have you made recently?

My recent finished item is a lilac hat with leaf pattern. It's made of really-really soft angora merino blend. Spring associates to me with bright colors and also with pastels. The color of that hat is so spring for me. Also I chose leaf pattern because of spring. I live in Estonia and here we have really long winters. Usually the last snow melts in the second half of April. In every February I can't wait the spring to start and I feel the urge to create something with leaves. It's my way to bring spring closer.

Where do you sell your crafts presently?

I sell my crafts on Etsy. My shop is called SunnyHands. Also sometimes I get orders from my friends.

Why are handmade crafts important to you?

Handmade is unique, made with love and care. People who do handmade do it because they love what they are doing. Handmade things have this little something in them. They create different atmosphere.
