Design Your Own Bamboo Clothing

in Clothing, Featured Crafters, Handmade on 09/08/11

Today’s featured crafter reminds us we all have our own inspiration for handmaking items –

I have a difficult body shape. I’m 5’2″ with size XL thighs and hip and size small waist. I never have anything that fits me. I have to constantly pull down my top because my ginormous hip will push it up, and then I have to constantly pull up my pants because the XL pants for my thighs are way too big for my waist. It’s a disaster.

Random Facts About You?

Chinese descendant, born in Bali Indonesia, live in Vancouver Canada.

I'd pick Backpacking over an All-Inclusive trip any day. For sure!

Spend time hiking.

I wish i could bake. I spend too much money on cake.

What got you started crafting?

I always enjoyed making things, but when I was growing up in Bali, we didn't have any "craft" classes or stores. Martha Stewart who? I started taking some classes when I moved to Canada in 2000. There are more classes being offered, and it is easier to find supplies here. Easier not cheaper!

Even though I have always enjoyed making things, I had never really thought about pursuing it until I discovered Etsy in 2004. The reason for that is that I would make a few things, but then they would clutter my space, I did not know what to do with the supplies and the final products. Really, how many cards can I make and give away? Or how many cross stitch can I hang on my wall, my parents' wall and my friends' wall? I never really thought about "selling" my handmade stuff, I did not know that there was a market for such a thing.

What is your source of inspiration?

I have a difficult body shape. I'm 5'2" with size XL thighs and hip and size small waist. I never have anything that fits me. I have to constantly pull down my top because my ginormous hip will push it up, and then I have to constantly pull up my pants because the XL pants for my thighs are way too big for my waist. It's a disaster.

What have you made recently?

Pink Polka Dots Slippers!

Where do you sell your crafts presently?

Right now, I sell my stuff on etsy.

Why are handmade crafts important to you?

Because handmade can be customized; so it is made for you!
