Almost everything you can buy with leds is mass produced. Leds are incredible little powerhouses of light which use tiny amounts of electricity and have long lives. There are a million ways they can be used in crafts and it adds a whole new aspect to 3D work.
Jill Bonner

If I were a type of flower I'd be an aardvark.
I don't have a television.
I used to work as a chocolate taster.
I used to paint traditional signs for pubs.
What got you started crafting?
The fact that my Dad always mended and made things coupled with my interest in aesthetics started me crafting.
Throughout my life I have varied my interests, working in varied media including illustration, casting, glass & wood.
What is your source of inspiration?
Making "Names In Lights" would be impossible without the electrical skills of my business and life partner, John Blackburn. He's not just a great provider of technical solutions, he was the recipient of the very first name light, made from acetate, that was the inspiration for the whole project.
What have you made recently?
One unexpectedly exciting part of the whole process has been the photography of the pieces. We have been immensely challenged in getting the lighting right to show off the fine oak plinths, to say nothing of getting the letters in focus without too much glare.
The pictures are now evolving to become little still life creations of their own.
Where do you sell your crafts presently?
We sell online and by word of mouth.
Why are handmade crafts important to you?
Simply, almost everything you can buy with leds is mass produced. Leds are incredible little powerhouses of light which use tiny amounts of electricity and have long lives. There are a million ways they can be used in crafts and it adds a whole new aspect to 3D work. We don't believe our products would "work" in the mass-produced environment.
